There was a dispute for the captainship for the Knight Riders' team in IPL season 2. But a solution came out and for some starting matches, 
Brendon McCullum of New Zealand is now made captain replacing Saurav Ganguly of Kolkata.

Indian Premier League - 2009

Indian Premier League, IPL or DLF IPL, whatever one says, is one of the most popular sayings in India and in many other countries where cricket is played. After the magic of twenty20 cricket spread all around the world and Indian Cricket Team won the twenty20 world cup in 2007, IPL was created by the BCCI and chaired by the Chairman & Commissioner IPL, BCCI Vice President Lalit Modi. After it IPL got the love of viewers and became the light of the hearts of the Indians.

The Indian Premier League - 2008 started on 18 April 2008, and ended on 1 June 2008 with the victory of the Rajasthan Royals against Chennai Super Kings in the final at the DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai. The important results in the end are given below.

Indian Premier League - 2009

There are 59 matches going to be played in only 34 days from April 18,2009 to May 21,2009. The matches will be played in South Africa's grounds and will be telecast in India on Set Max. The names of the eight franchises are Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Hyderabad Deccan Chargers, Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Daredevils, Kings XI Punjab, Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals. The first match will be played on April 18,2009 between Rajesthan Royals and Royal Challengers.

The Team Composition Rules


  • Minimum squad strength of 16 players plus one physio and a coach.

  • No more than 8 foreign players in the squad and at most 4 in the playing XI.For the 2009 edition franchises are allowed 10 foreign players in the squad. The number allowed in theplaying XI remains unchanged at 4.

  • A minimum of 8 local players must be included in each team.

  • A minimum of 2 players from the BCCI under-22 pool in each team.
